5 Week Beginner’s Courses:

A series of five 2-hour sessions that focus on throwing, trimming and glazing and cups and bowls. Suitable for complete beginners and those with some previous experience.  At a date to be confirmed after the final session, participants will be invited to come and collect their finished pots, or have them posted. 3-4 participants / 6:30 - 8:30pm / £225pp

Private teaching

Private sessions are available at the studio and customisable to personal learning goals around relevant aspects of throwing, glazing, firing, workshop practice etc. All prices include materials and firing (where relevant). Please get in touch to discuss specifics. Complete beginners welcome! Gift vouchers available here.

Half days run 9:45-1pm and 2-5:15pm; full days 10:00-4:30/5pm. Refreshments included but please bring your own lunch for a full day (lunch break 30mins to an hour, to your preference). Up to three participants per session, prices are per person.

3 Session bundle

Throwing and turning within two consecutive weeks, with a glazing session arranged thereafter. Finished work can be posted or collected from the pottery. Additional firing costs may occur if a lot of work is made - it would depend on the size and quantity of work but is unlikely to exceed £30. Timings for each day, as above.

 

£200 Three half day sessions, per person (save £25)

£350 Two full day sessions and 1 half day, per person (save £25)

 

Studio time

£15 per hour to use the studio facilities and materials for thrown work. Available to those who have completed a beginners course or at least three private sessions. Glaze firings arranged as-and-when: £5 per piece charge for electric kiln, £12 per piece for gas kiln (more for larger pieces). Clay, glazes and bisc firings included (within reason). 

 

Children's sessions (under 16 and accompanied by an adult) 

Adult and child £25 per hour. 

Adult and two children £35 per hour.

All teaching is held at The Reading Room Studio, located in the historic village of Brampton Bryan that forms the major part of the Harley Estate. The estate is set in the north west corner of Herefordshire, close to the county borders of Shropshire and Powys and has beautiful walks in every direction

There are a number of BnBs nearby and close guesthouses include The Lion Hotel in Leintwardine and The Riverside at Amstrey. A morning and evening bus service runs from Ludlow to Knighton, through Brampton Bryan. The closest shop is located 3 miles away in Leintwardine and there is Aardvark Bookshop (over 50,000 books in stock and specialising in Art books) and café just 100 metres up the road from the studio.
